Precision machining has been a primary research field in the Department. In pursuit of becoming one of the top 100 research universities in the world, the University allocated 102 million NT dollars from 2007 to 2008 to the development of the Precision Manufacturing Center in 2009. Equipped with high-end precision machining facilities and measuring instruments, the Center provides professional manufacturing and measurement services to all our faculty and students. The Center is committed to providing efficient and high-quality component precision manufacturing to assist students with innovative design and cutting-edge research to escalate the university’s international competitiveness towards excellence. The facilities can be categorized according to the functions—precision machining or measurement. For precision machining, there is an ultra-precision turning machine, an ultra-precision grinding machine, an ultra-precision machining system, a precision surface grinder, a sub-micron precision machining center, a precision wire-cut EDM, a CNC turn-mill center, a Swiss-type automatic lathe, and a powder type 3D printing machine. The measuring instruments include a form measuring instrument, a high-precision roundness measuring instrument, a CMM, a 3D nanopositioning and measuring machine, a laser scanning confocal microscope, and a digital microscope.
