Guidelines for Substituting or Supplementing Required Courses

(For Students Changing Majors, Current Students, and Double Majors)

  • Students who have transferred into the Department or have special circumstances and wish to apply for the substitution of required courses must follow the application procedures established by the Department.
  • Students pursuing a double major who intend to supplement required courses must also adhere to the designated procedures.

Department Policy:

Departmental required courses must be taken within the Department of Mechanical Engineering, with the following exceptions:

  • Calculus
  • General Physics (a)(1)(2) (including lab)
  • General Chemistry (c) (including lab)

If a student fails a required course offered by the Department (excluding course withdrawal), they may apply to substitute it with an equivalent course offered by another NTU department (limited to NTU main campus; courses from other NTU system schools are not eligible). The substitution must be reviewed and approved before it can be granted.

You may refer to the Undergraduate Required Courses and Credit Inquiry System to check which courses are restricted to the Department.
